If you don’t want to think one more thought about the onslaught of mayhem that this second Trump Administration has wrought upon us all, I have good news.
1: I bought Shirley Poppy seeds to plant in the backyard. I thought about moving to Spain for five minutes, but instead, I bought poppy seeds that require me to be here to sow in the Spring, and then to deadhead in the Summer, and then reseed in the Winter. I didn’t realize that I had made a kind of mental decision right there, in the aisle with the on-sale seeds. I will be getting bulbs for peonies at Costco next. There will be flowers next spring.
2: If you listen to one thing on the news this week: Ezra Klein, the strong and steady voice of reason and calm, provided this week's viral commentary. In this audio and written essay Do Not Believe Him Ezra breaks down exactly what is being done to us and what the power of our attention is worth. Trump needs you to believe he can wield power illegally to normalize it and barrel on. Do not give it to him.
Stay awhile. Write to us more.
